80% of success is down to what’s going on in your head. Here are 3 essential mindset shifts to help you get your thoughts straight and your business going in the right direction
Stop comparing your success level with other peoples’
Comparison is the thief of joy. When you compare yourself, your success or your creative work to others, you’ll invariably tell yourself you’re falling short somewhere. Comparison is a waste of energy and it’s a sure fire way to slip into a negative headspace.
Negative mindsets never produce useful results, ever.
So stop the self flagellation and simply mute or unfollow the people that you feel triggered by (I’m making an educated guess that social media is the likely place you’re surfing the comparison wave). Rather put your energy into refocussing on your own work.
Practice self acceptance
When you can accept yourself exactly as you are, exactly where you’re at, it’s much easier to make progress. Imposter syndrome is an inevitability for creatives, however you get to choose whether it leads you off piste. Make a list of all the compliments you’ve had about your work, refocus on the ‘why’ behind your work and list out ten things you’ve achieved in the past year. We’re often so focussed on the road ahead that we forget how far we’ve already come. Remind yourself of your own brilliance once in a while.
Drop the worry
We’re hardwired to worry and consider all the things that could go wrong when we start something new, pitch to a new client, decide to go full time or share a personal project. Worry is a waste of time and feeds into procrastination which keeps you stuck. Instead, allow yourself to consider what could go right. Visualise the result of a good outcome and feel into the possibility of things going your way. I bet you feel better already.
When we feel better emotionally, we do better. We take bold action and we’re far more likely to succeed.
Daily Mindset Management
Mindset shifts take concerted effort and you’ll see the benefits of working on your mindset over time. Here are a few of my favourite strategies for keeping the positive vibes flowing every day:
- Get a good night’s sleep
- Meditate daily (even if it’s for 5 minutes)
- Move your body (I use the Alo Moves app for yoga)
- Journal
- Create some good feeling affirmations
- Read uplifting books
- Listen to inspirational audio books or podcasts (I love Audible)
- Surround yourself with upbeat people
- Stop listening to and reading negative news
I’ve made quantum shifts thanks to the mindset work I’ve been doing over the past few years and I’d love to support you with improving yours. To discuss how coaching can help you, please book a free strategy call with me here.
